It was a while after I found out I was pregnant that I actually had to start wearing maternity clothing. As soon as I found out I started looking online for maternity clothing but couldn’t justify buying anything “just yet” as all my clothes still fitted, this being around 12 weeks.
First trimester I wasn’t showing at all but still chose to wear loose tops, shirts, jumpers for comfort as some days I just felt bloated and uncomfortable.
Second trimester I started wearing maternity jeans because my jeans got too tight over the bump. so I bought a grey pair of skinny maternity jeans from asos with the “under the bump” fit, (thats where the elastic is under the bump) self explanatory I know but still.. I found this fit very comfy and suited me great, the jeans from asos had a very soft material and I would love them in a normal fit soon. I got a few leggins as well from New Look that would go all the up to my chest but I knew I would grow into them eventually so I stuck by them for comfort. I wore quite a lot of long shirts with jeans and hareem trousers with loose tops over the summer.
Third trimester is where it got tricky. I went for anything that was comfortable. I couldn’t wear the “under the bump” fit anymore. I sit quite a lot at work and whilst driving I found that the elastic dug into my stomach and was very painful so I put them aside. I had to start wearing the blue maternity jeans I bought in mother care, they had an “over the bump fit” and I still wear them. Leggings with the “over the bump” fit have been a godsend in the third trimester and the only thing I wear now. I had to buy a few jammies that were in a bigger size just so I could lounge with nothing digging into my bump. All tops that are the first layer on my bump have to be seam free, otherwise I go crazy because the skin gets to itchy. I don’t want to scratch the bump too much to prevent stretch marks so the first layer is usually inside out. I bought sports bras as well just for the extra comfort when I could not face a normal bra.
My advise is go for anything comfortable. Get on asos as there is so much variety there and if it doesn’t fit for you or you simply don’t like it its so easy to return it and get something else.
